INSIDE THE TRINITY
With the full E.P. now available via advance order on Bandcamp to our followers on social media, out mail list and of course Bandcamp itself it seems a good time to start delve deeper into the TRINITY E.P., the thoughts behind it, the process that bought it to life and maybe a bit of tech stuff to!

Let us stat off with some background on the the tracks that make up the E.P. and we will get to the rest in the coming weeks!

PART 1
THE TRINITY
So no big surprise that 'Trinity' is based around three main tracks. More surprising possibly is that I have been holding on to these tracks for quite a while which was not necessarily an easy thing to do. Let's have a look at the history of these tracks!
SURRENDER TO MY WILL
Surrender to my will was written in around October 2011 and went through a few early transformations and we actually played this live at the Islington Academy at our last London show. At that point it ended up in the format represented by track 8 on the E.P. and like all the TRINITY in some form it was around at the time or Reformations and Waking The Dead but I kept it aside as for some reason.

It was one of many track I looked at for inclusion for 'Requiems From The Abyss' but was also one of many that I knew was way too good to not be put to much better use, in fact I knew I really deserved special treatment so when It came to considering what tracks would be part of our first new release in years it was one of the top dogs!

It was clear to me though that the song needed bringing up to date with my current vision for NFD and I started working on it from the ground up more enhancing and refining most of the time rather than changing until we had a new version but in the original format. It was at that point I talked to Chris about it and said I had had a few ideas about doing an extended version. I knew it was going to be mostly the middle section that would be expanded and had worked out a possible bass progression one weekend but left at that for a few months.

I came back to it one evening fancying a much around on the guitar, it was a still, warm night in the Mojave and was feeling inspired to try some ideas out so I fired up the system and picked up my trusty Gibson and started playing. The whole new middle section just poured out of me and on to the song page and as normal once I get going I can't stop till it is done! It was a bit rough around the edges but there it was! A nearly fully formed Gothic Monstrosity! I ran off a mix and lay listening to it in bed till I fell asleep. Then next day I went back into the studio and refined a few bits and added the solo coming out of the drop into the end section and we had our new version minus a few keyboard tweaks and vocal refinements on the second verse which I did over the coming weeks.

The drums were main feature of this track and so it was time to go over it with our drum maestro Mr. Luca Mazzucconi and see how we could take programmed drums and turn them in to something epic in his hands!

We spent several sessions with him in his practice room sending me video versions and discussing ideas and trying things out. It is one of my great musical pleasures bouncing ideas back and fourth with Luca and getting creative end up with some amazing drums from the combination of both our minds. It was more difficult this time as I was not able to be there with him which makes the process much more fluid but it was the best we could do given the circumstances in the world!

This a culminated in a over night (for me) drum session via a video link from California to Italy.

I sent the rhythms off to Chris so he could track new version himself in London
